There are always ways we can improve ourselves, but life sometimes gets in the way and we put off even starting to make those improvements. September is Self Improvement Month, which means it's the perfect opportunity to motivate yourself to make changes. Some are easier to make than others, but once you get yourself going, you'll feel more inspired to continue long after the month is over.
Do Something That Scares You
Almost everyone has a fear, so whatever it is, do something to try to conquer it. If you're afraid of heights, go skydiving; if you're afraid of bridges, go bridge jumping or even just walk across one that has a footpath. Whatever you're scared of, you'll feel such a sense of accomplishment even doing one thing to try to get past it.
Do More for Others
We'll often do things for family and best friends, but it's less likely to happen for friends or random strangers. During Self Improvement Month, try to do at least one random act of kindness a day. Send a few people presents for no reason, do yard work for someone or cook someone's favorite meal and drop it off so they don't have to cook. They're relatively easy gestures, but they can mean a lot to the recipients and make you feel good in the process.
Make More Time for Fun
If everything you do revolves around responsibilities such as work, you need to add more fun into your life. The best way to do this is to schedule plans in advance with loved ones, especially those you haven't seen in awhile. You may feel guilty at first thinking you should be doing something work related, but after awhile you'll realize that leaving room for fun that isn't based around some type of responsibility is actually beneficial for every area of your life.
Make Healthier Changes
Some do a complete overhaul of their life all at once in order to be more healthy, but often the best way to go about it is to do a change or two at a time. It's less drastic and you're more likely to stick to it. Some small changes to start with are to go for a walk a few times a week, add one more vegetable to your diet everyday and cut back on one bad food item, such as soda. You can gradually increase your changes as you get used to them.
Meditate
Stress can take it's toll, and the longer it continues without being managed, the more detrimental it can be. Meditation is quite useful for instantly being able to calm down and for keeping you more at ease in the long run. Start with a few minutes a day and you can eventually increase the amount of time as you get used to it.
Use Self Improvement Month as a starting point and you'll get used to focusing on making improvements rather than just going through the motions of day-to-day life. There are always ways that a person can improve and even the smallest changes can make a big difference.
