Mother's Day is hard for me now since my mom has passed away. If I could I would stay in bed all day and sleep but this past Mother's Day I didn't. I felt my mom around me the whole day. When my mom was alive, we always went to church, and then went to Eat N' Park for brunch with all the aunts and their daughters. We still did it this year, even though my mom wasn't here. Instead of being sad, I chose to honor my mom by going to the dock to see the sunset, and I saw two butterflies around me. I felt my mom.
In past years my mom and I always went and picked out flowers to start gardening, but I didn't do that this year. Mother's Day is bitter sweet for me now that I take it as the day goes on. So what if I shed tears, I miss my mom.

This story goes back quite a few years as I am 81 now and I was probably 10 at this happening. It was before my mother died. My mother took me to church for a Mother's Day banquet and there was a vocalist for entertainment. I do not remember the title of the song she sang, but one line I still remember is "Tick Tock, Tick Tock went the clock on the wall." Today, this reminds me that time flies so fast.
Life has gone once I left the farm and the 24 hour commitment to farming. Different churches have come into and left my life. Many churches celebrate Mother's Day with tea, a banquet, or dinner. When my daughters were growing up we participated in several specials. My daughters are now either out of town or going to a church that does not offer a special Mother's Day event. I have a friend who lost her mother, so we have become a team and participate in the church's Mother's Day dinner together.
Mother's Day is special. I have fond memories of my mother, even though my time with her was very short. But...life goes on and I have enjoyed my three daughters and three granddaughters, and have been blessed with three granddaughter in-laws.
