Strawberries are usually at their finest in June. With the weather we have had, who knows when or if we will have the juicy treat this season. Cultivated berries are usually very large. Wild strawberries are quite small and more flavorful.
When I was young and lived on a farm, I would search for berries with my parents. Those berries would make shortcake when just picked, and homemade jam for the cold winter months. I can still find berries where I live, but I usually take the easy way out and get the cultivated berries. It is your choice- you can go to a store or a roadside stand. Or you can take a drive and pick your own at a farm.
Whatever you choose, nothing starts summer like the taste of a big juicy strawberry, except for one dipped in chocolate.
