Have you ever gone to make a sauce and you have no corn starch? Or needed lemon juice and not a drop is in your cupboard. With the help from a cook book that I have at home. (In the kitchen with Martha and Mary) I have I put together a list of ten substitutions.

1. Corn starch 1 TLB = 2 TLBS. all purpose flour.
   
   
   
2. Lemon juice 1tsp.= 1/2 tsp. vinegar
   
   
   
3. Allspice 1tsp.= 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon +1/2 tsp. ground cloves
   
   
   
4. Wine 1C.=1 cup juice. (grape cranberry or apple)
   
   
   
5. Baking powder 1 tsp. = 1/4 tsp. baking soda = 5/8 tsp. cream of tarter.
   
   
   
6. Vanilla Bean 1/2 bean = 1 TLBS. Vanilla extract
   
   
   
7. Corn syrup 1C. = 1C. Honey or 1C sugar =1/4 C liquid.
   
   
   
8. Unsweetened baking chocolate 1 ounce = 3 TLBS. unsweetened cocoa + 1 TLBS. butter
   
   
   
9. Mustard 1 tsp. dry = 1 TLBS. prepared
   
   
   
10. Self-Rising flour 1C. = 1 C. all purpose flour (sifted) + 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt.

No need to go out in the cold when you have the substitutes in your cupboard.
