There were more than 50,000 sledding, snow tubing, and tobogganing-related injuries that needed treatment.
Total costs were more than $4 billion!!
Safety Tips:
Most important - WEAR A HELMET. Check the label for DOT (Dept. of Transportation)
Always sled feet first. Protect the head!!!
Children should always have an adult with them.
Use a sled that you can steer and is in good condition.
Check out the course to be sure that there are no hidden dangers like a pond/stream cliff, rocks or trees or hidden stumps that could cause someone getting hurt.
Don’t sled by streets, driveways, after dark or when it is icy.
Parents should teach children how ton “roll” off a sled that they can not stop.
Wear warm clothing and change out of wet clothing.
Sled with a buddy and always let someone know where you are sled riding.
Never hook onto a bumper of a car.
Don’t drink alcohol or take drugs before or while sledding or if you are the adult watching the children.
